EASY TO SEE WHERE THE ACORN WOODPECKER GOT ITS' NAME

It's fun to watch them drill holes for their acorns - except when you hear them drilling holes in the wood siding of the house.  I was walking through the town of Templeton when I saw him busily storing up his nuts.

an accompanying Haiku from Magyar - his blog is on my side bar.  I love his poetry.

VALENTINE'S DAY WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY AT THE LAKE AND THE REFLECTIONS IN THE WATER

.....were beautiful.  I enjoyed photographing the two mallards that were on the rocks.

Bottom photos of my grandson who is training our indoor kitten to walk on a leash so she can enjoy being outside sometimes.  This was her first walk.

PRETTY FISH

I have this thing - when I'm near a pet store or anywhere that has an aviary or an aquarium I love to take photos.  I try to do it in a secretive way because I think it must look a little odd for someone to do this.

Some of them seem oblivious to me.

Some of them seem a little goofy or like a cartoon character.

So many have grumpy faces.

PERFECT CONDITIONS AT THE LAKE LATELY

I'm easily entertained by the mallards.

Today I saw two males trying to hold a female under water - then a third male came in to help.

She eventually got away.  I don't know why they do that.  At first I thought it was a mating ritual but now I don't think so.

In some pics if u look close you can see her head barely out of the water.  I don't know what happens that makes them attack her like this.

I've seen it happen several times before this.

They have her almost all the way under the water.

and one of them is biting her neck.  Maybe it is a mating thing.

WOW TWO POSTS TODAY

Here is a pelican that I shot in Cambria when I was last there over a week ago.  It flew right in front of the sun.  I had to darken it which made the sun's outline show up.

EGRET AT PISMO BEACH DURING THANKSGIVING WEEK 2015

A few months late posting these but I still have quite a few photos from this trip up the coast.
