SOME BEAUTIFUL SEAGULLS IN FLIGHT (I'll be sketching soon)

Putting up just a few -  I have so many photos that will eventually go up.  Until the seagulls leave which will be closer to spring - I will continue to take seagull photos because it will be months before they come back.  They will arrive again between fall and winter towards the end of the year.

Each day I go to the lake I expect them to be gone.  I'll miss their flights when they leave - especially when they catch a wind draft and float down to the water.

What can I say about the weather - it continues to be either windy or cloudy and we have been getting some walks in around the lake but most of the time lately it's been too cold from the "lake effect" wind.  Even if we don't walk we drive over, get out of the car and quickly feed the ducks all the time fighting the wind.

I'm really looking forward to spring - we never use to have this many windy days in January (santa ana winds) ...usually this would happen in spring and fall.

TODAY'S PRETTY LIGHT AT THE LAKE

We walked a little later than usual, about an hour later than we normally do and the water  really looked gold today - like it was filled with gold flecks.

I remember as a kid panning for gold at KNott's Berry Farm.  I'm pretty sure this is what the water looked like when we were hoping to get rich.

I believe I came away with a small vial of pretty water which I was sure was worth a fortune  - in fact, I doubt there were any kids that came away empty handed.

.

We were all gold miners back in the day especially if you visited Knotts Berry Farm.  If you didn't, I'm pretty confident there were other ways that kids found their make believe fortunes.

THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TIME OF YEAR

During Fall and Winter - the sun's reflections and the "lighting" at the lake is so beautiful it's hard to stop taking photos.  Ducks can eventually be a real boring subject in my opinion, because they are an easy target and there are so many of them at a local lake.  I take a lot of duck photos but most never get posted because the water was just way too blue looking and the ducks...well the photos are just boring.

Yesterday when I went off by myself to walk the lake I was struck by the lighting on this mallard.  Of course, i took about every pose she did but won't post them all - these are way too many as it is.

PELICANS AT OLD PORT INN

I enjoyed the pelicans that hang out around the pier near Avila.  We have white pelicans in the mountains but I've never seen a brown pelican here.  It's a treat when I see them.

GREATER YELLOW LEGS (I THINK)

I find it hard to tell the difference between a sandpiper or greater yellow legs - although I haven't really tried to study it.  Took these at our local lake.

I TOOK THESE BACK IN 2007

I enjoyed seeing them again.

When we sold our house I left my bird baths I had and some other nice yard pieces at the house.  Wish I had these now.
