YELLOW FINCH VARIANT

Someone's been eating yellow seed.

Usually they are more reddish orange - but the variants can be yellow or orange.  It depends on what seed they eat.  I always get excited when I see a yellow one because they are a lot more rare where I live - both in Wrightwood and here in Crestline.

MY FAVORITE DUCK - FEMALE MALLARD

I find the female mallard to be such a pretty bird because of the patterns of her feathers.  I learned recently that the "Northern Shoveler" female has a similar pattern but she has a much spatula shaped bill.  The other day I saw ducks I didn't recognize even though they looked similar to mallards.  After some research I found they were "shovelers".

I'll post a photo of them later.

FRIENDLY CAT

PARROT IN RUNNING SPRINGS

Yesterday, since we feed the ducks every day at the lake, we decided to find a pet store that carried duck food.  We ended up in Running Springs where we ordered a 25 pound bag which will be there on Tuesday.

While browsing around in the store I saw not only a beautiful cat - make that two beautiful cats roaming around - but a few parrots in cages.  This particular one was a beauty.

The cats - are a year old and were brought in by someone in a litter of five.  Three cats were sold but two remained.  The owner kept them and they hang out at the store all day.  The gray one I'll post later was really friendly.

FLYING IN - FLYING OUT

One of my favorite things to do is feed the ducks and gulls at the lake.

VERY LIGHT DUSTING OF SNOW DURING THE NIGHT - BUT TEMPS ARE COLD

Temps are really cold so we probably won't have much melting - however, it was a light dusting - like powdered sugar on a brownie.

I still mostly have juncos visiting all the time - so my photo ops usually include them..  When up in Bend, I bought a card which was a painting of juncos.  I'm going to try my own painting soon - here is a junco I photographed recently.
