MORE PICS FROM THE LAKE

They have thinned a lot of the forest although this photo doesn't show it as you look across.

These next photos show some of it.

I always love this part of the walk.

there have been some gorgeous skies lately.

AT THE LAKE RECENTLY

Cloudy skies have cleared up and the fog in the mornings are no more (for now).  Within a month or so the monsoon weather will start which will bring gorgeous skies but humidity.  We have been able to get out on our walks and enjoy this gorgeous weather.  The ducks are scarce right now (probably tending to their babies), only a few coots remain and the most activity I've seen lately are the herons.

A trip over to Lake Arrowhead yesterday revealed some mallards and the six geese that hang out there - ...and one seagull.  I will make a trip to Hesperia lake soon and expect to find all the birds including the pelicans hanging out over there.

Either the herons or the cormorants take turns hanging out on that post in the middle of the lake.  They switch shifts evidently and this particular day the post belonged to the heron.  I've spotted two different herons so far and no white egrets yet.

House finch in tree - love the colors.
Yard has been foggy/cloudy all week.
Grosbeak in tree.
First male oriole to show up.  Out of focus but wanted to document the day.
House finch on railing
Part of back yard in fog - what I've looked out at all week and it was getting pretty darn boring.  Sunny today!

MY FAVORITE PIGEONS PHOTOS

I would sit on the deck and watch them sit up on the wire.  I assumed they were talking.  None of them appeared that brave or courageous.  I could sense they weren't sure of me but yet they wanted what I had to offer - the finest wild bird seed they had ever seen - a gourmet brand.  They longed for a taste of it.

Finally - they decided to do rock, paper, scissors - Paper lost and flew down to do a dry run - a test to see if I would shoo them away.  I didn't - at least that time I didn't.

(I also did a sketch awhile back of the one in flight).

THE LIGHTING CONTINUES TO BE GORGEOUS AT THE LAKE

We have been going later in the day to walk the lake so the sun's reflections are different than high noon.

ROBIN AT LAKE GREGORY

Robins are back - and just today I saw our first Grosbeak back in the yard.

Here is the robin.
