BEAUTIFUL FEMALE MALLARD

I wonder if she will be one of the females having duck babies this spring.  I can't wait!  They should be born sometime in May.  The females have partnered up with their males and now usually hang in couples.  Once in awhile it appears one female has two male companions that hang around her.

I find the pattern of their feathers so beautiful.

GROSBEAK IN WRIGHTWOOD

I was looking for something specific - hanging out in my external drive - for a couple of days and although i haven't found what I'm looking for I found the original folder full of photos I hadn't yet posted - this was when we were back in Wrightwood - I had posted some from this series and it was the squirrel with other birds around it on a railing which is several of my favorite photos..  But I found some in that folder i never edited or posted.

here is just one.  They aren't the best - but I love them anyway.  I'm reminded how every day lots of birds and the squirrel would hang out on the deck and they would come really close and pretty much ignore me sitting out there.

Going to walk again soon so will post this before i leave.

EAGLE AT ALPINE ZOO

On my way down the hill and over to Riverside for some time out today but thought i'd do a quick post on the eagle at the zoo.

I intend to get up there in the next few weeks as long as it doesn't snow.  I love going there even though it's really a small zoo (they are expanding it)..


They take in animals that need rehab or can't be released to the wild because of too much human interaction.  The eagles I have seen there seem to have some sort of eye diseases or conditions.

It's a beauty today - even though it's a nice day to walk the lake here we are going to Fairmont Park which also has a lake and it's a beautiful walk around the whole area and will probably end up somewhere for a snack, walk some neighborhoods and then back home hopefully in time to see a sunset as we come up the mountain.

Way behind on posting my winter pics here.   These were all taken in January plus a lot more.



This was on a really cold windy day.

 January skies were gorgeous and we went out on the rim often to see the cloud formations. 

I want them on here so i can look back next year and see what January was like in 2015.

we are in a week of warmer than usual temps which has been nice - but the winds will probably start tomorrow .

it's kind of nice being level with the clouds.
