SOME GULLS FROM THE CENTRAL COAST

So...I read a bird expert who says they hate hearing someone call gulls "seagulls".  For me they will always be referred to as seagulls - that's all I've known my whole life.  These were taken at Morro Bay State Beach.   I always enjoy seagulls and get carried away taking photos ....Oh yes...I have lots more!

I feel there is a story going on here below that I'm not privy to - but the one seagull is finding something very funny to laugh at.

Almost a wicked laugh is ringing in my ears.

ROBINS ARE THE CRANKIEST LOOKING BIRDS THAT I HAVE SEEN

When a robin stares at me - I want to take myself off to my room and ground myself.    It's like they stare you down and are very skeptical of what you tell them and never approve of your behavior.

They are cranky too.

I WANT TO TALK ABOUT PENGUIN - ....A MAGPIE NAMED PENGUIN

Over at Instagram I followed photos posted of this magpie that this boy and his family befriended and now the magpie evidently loves to be around them.  You will totally enjoy the photos if you go visit their instagram page.

I was looking at Magpies on google and never knew that a person who hangs around a train station, bumming cigarettes, asking for money and such - is known as a Magpie.

WE HAVE A SPOTTED TOWHEE FAMILY THAT LIVES UNDER THE BUSHES BY THE FENCE

This particular year they have coming out more into the open.  They are usually shy and stay on the ground near leaves where they like to scatter the leaves around with their feet looking for food.

I started putting out wild bird seed at the fence edge for them and now not only do they come out into the yard but they enjoy the bird baths I have sitting around.

Here is a male spotted towhee enjoying the water.

MOTHER ROBIN IS GETTING TIRED OF FEEDING HER BABY

There were a lot of robins in the yard yesterday.

I was watching these two interact yesterday.  The immature  robins who are still somewhat being fed but can definitely feed themselves- are still after their mothers to feed them.  Mom usually gets tired and you can tell by the way they act.  The "babies" are at them quite a bit and the mom will stop walking away from them and look at them as if to say you're old enough to feed yourself.

The two types of birds in the yard right now that walk versus hop are robins and Brewer's blackbirds.  Robins take about 7 quick steps and stop - seven or so quick steps and stops....on and on.  Once in awhile I'll see one hop to their destination.

MONTANA DE ORO FLOWERS BACK IN 2007

I loved one of my first digital cameras - a Kodak - it took beautiful photos.

We were hiking in April and saw these spring flowers.
